S4C drama series available as free online box-set for the first time

27 October 2017

As S4C’s bilingual crime drama Bang nears its climactic conclusion, those who have missed out have a second chance to watch the gripping series.

After the last episode is broadcast on Sunday 29 October, every episode will be available to watch for free on S4C’s catch-up service at s4c.cymru and BBC iPlayer – the first time ever an S4C drama series has been made available to watch online as a box-set.

Bang is produced by Joio and Artists Studio for S4C and is written by BAFTA award-winning author Roger Williams. It follows the story of a young man, Sam, whose life changes when he comes into possession of a gun, and his policewoman sister, Gina, who tries to solve the mystery of who owns the weapon.

The eight-part series is set and shot on location in the community of Port Talbot and the Afan Valley, is directed by Philip John (The Halcyon, Outlander, Downton Abbey) and Ashley Way (Ice, Ripper Street, Stella, Y Streic a Fi) and produced by Catrin Lewis Defis (The Collection, Broadchurch).

Bang has also been acquired by Swedish broadcaster SVT and was recently showcased to broadcasters from around the world at the annual MIPCOM trade show in Cannes.

S4C's Creative Content Director, Amanda Rees says: “Bang is the perfect series to premiere a box-set service. This compelling crime drama has already performed extremely well on our catch-up services and has captured the imagination of audiences in Wales and further afield. Making it all available online for longer, so our viewers can watch it on their terms and in their own time makes perfect sense. In a broadcasting environment where binge watching and catch-up is becoming the norm, this is great news not only for S4C but also for the viewers.”

Bang creator, writer and executive producer for Joio, Roger Williams says: "Audiences have been gripped by Sam and Gina’s story. It was very common during the series’ original run on S4C to hear people say they didn’t want to wait a week to find out what happened next. Now, people will be able to binge on all 8 episodes in one sitting. We are very pleased to have helped make Bang available for longer.”
