S4C Viewers’ Evening in Aberystwyth cancelled

Update - 16 March 2020

The S4C Viewers' Evening in Aberystwyth on Wednesday, March 18 has been cancelled because of concerns over Covid-19.

But viewers of the channel will have the chance to question the Chief Executive Owen Evans and Creative Content Director Amanda Rees during a Facebook Live event.

This will happen on the S4C Facebook page at 6.00pm on Wednesday, 18 March 2020.

Chief Executive Owen Evans said: "After a risk assessment by S4C, we have decided, unfortunately to cancel the Viewers' Evening in Aberystwyth. The health and well-being of the public is our priority.

"But we are still really keen to hear from people. S4C is a public broadcasting service so it is imperative that we listen to the opinions of our viewers.

"Everyone is welcome to get in touch with us on Facebook Live to ask questions and to share what they would like to see on the channel in the future."

People can also get in touch before this by sending questions to S4C's Gwifren viewers' service gwifren@s4c.cymru, 0370 600 4141 or through Facebook Messenger.

The people of Aberystwyth can voice their opinions on S4C's programmes and services at a public event this month.

The channel will hold a Viewers Evening at The Morlan Centre in Aberystwyth on Wednesday 18 March at 7.00pm, where members of S4C's management team and staff will take note of viewers' comments, including it's Chief Executive Owen Evans - a native of the town and a former pupil of Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig.

Come and give your opinion about the channels' content.

Were you a part of the live audience for Cân i Gymru or the Gwobrau'r Selar awards ceremony that were recently broadcast from the town?

Do you like the channel's sports coverage?

Is the service for learners and the subtitles provision adequate?

And are there enough services online?

Is the way we engage with our viewers effective?

These are the kind of questions you can ask in an open and frank discussion between you, S4C officers and Authority members.

Alongside Chief Executive, Owen Evans, S4C's Creative Content Director, Amanda Rees, Interim Chair, Hugh Hesketh Evans, and the channel's content commissioners will be present on the evening to listen to viewers.

Owen Evans said: "I'm looking forward to returning to my hometown to have an open and honest discussion with the people of Aberystwyth about the channel's programmes and services.

"Aberystwyth is a town that encompasses the views of many different groups – there are business people, farmers, scholars and people from both urban and rural backgrounds so I'm really looking forward to going back to talk to the local community.

"S4C is a public broadcasting service so it is vital we listen to viewers. There will be a welcome for all at the Morlan Centre to come and tell us what they would like to see in the future."

S4C will seek views on all its' programmes as well as online channel, Hansh, on-demand service S4C Clic and its social media platforms.

The evening is free to attend and a simultaneous translation service will be available.

If you would like to attend the Viewers' Evening or for more information, call 01352 754212 or email nosongwylwyr@s4c.cymru.
