Stay safe – and raise a smile

April 6 2020

Robin McBryde showing off his best dance moves, Emma and Trystan from Priodas Pum Mil keeping their distance and the former head teacher Ken Hughes obeying the rules instead of setting them? Covid 19 has made our world a very strange place.

And although it's obvious that Robin and his two sons are enjoying themselves dancing in the short film, the message is a serious one – Cadwch yn Ddiogel – Stay Safe.

S4C has commissioned a series of messages by some of Wales's best-known faces in order to drive home the message of protecting ourselves against Covid 19 in order to avoid the illness, stay out of hospital and therefore, reduce the pressure on NHS staff.

Amanda Rees, S4C's Director of Creative Content said: "S4C is a Public Service Broadcaster so it is important that we share Welsh and UK Government guidelines on how to act in order to ensure that everybody keeps safe and well in times like this."

"But it is important that we spread the message in a way that is fun and will raise a smile with our viewers who have to stay at home at the moment. S4C is here for you during this very difficult time."

Ken Hughes is in his 70s and as such is at high risk from Covid 19 – so he stays at home and has help with his shopping. Emma and Trystan talk about the importance of observing the two-metre rule – about the length of the Priodas Pum Mil sofa – when leaving the house.

Robin's message is about the benefits of keeping fit – both physically and mentally – by exercising – or dancing in the living room – whatever takes your fancy!

More videos will appear over the next few weeks with messages from well-know faces including Carol Vorderman, speaking in Welsh; the teacher Mr Wyn from Ysgol Ni: Maesincla and Dr Mair Parry from Ysbyty Gwynedd.

The Cadwch yn Ddiogel videos have been produced by production companies from Wales – including Rondo, Boom and Darlun.

A Cadwch yn Ddiogel video will be broadcast on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week at 7.30pm – between Heno and Newyddion on S4C. They will also be available to watch on S4C Clic - s4c.cymru/clic.
