S4C launches People’s Panel

04/08/2011

S4C is inviting the public to join a new panel to give their opinions about the Channel’s programmes and services – with a view to using the public feedback to help plan and develop for the future.

The new S4C People’s Panel – Panel Pobl Cymru S4C – was launched at the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham today (Thursday 4 August) by S4C’s Chief Executive Arwel Ellis Owen.

The Channel is looking for people from all areas of Wales and all types of background to be members of the S4C People’s Panel.

S4C is looking for 100 people to join the new panel for an initial period of 12 months. The panel will meet regularly in different areas in Wales to discuss a range of topics relating to the Channel’s work.

S4C wants to hear the views of Welsh learners and non Welsh speakers as well as people who are fluent in Welsh. S4C wants to hear the opinions of viewers as well as light viewers and non-viewers of S4C.

The final panel make-up and the way the research is to be undertaken will be the responsibility of the independent market research agency, Beaufort Research.

Beaufort Research will be asking panel members to take part in regular discussions in their own area, where they could have the chance to speak with S4C programme makers, as well as taking part in occasional surveys.

To join or for more information on the panel, please visit www.beaufortresearch.co.uk/s4c or ring Beaufort on their local rate number:

“S4C is going through a period of change and wants TV viewers across Wales to help it develop the best programmes and services for the future. This is an exciting opportunity for people to make their views heard and help shape the future of S4C,” explained Arwel Ellis Owen.

“We are very excited by the project as we are inviting the widest possible cross section of the Welsh public to take part. We want a Channel that is relevant to all the people of Wales and this is part of the process of widening our appeal even more.”
