S4C have teamed up with BAFTA-winning graphics company Rough Collie to produce a series of Christmas themed idents which will accompany the Channel’s festive programming this year.
The 3D animated idents, which will be introduced in the lead up to Christmas, show the adventures of a small Robin as he flies across snow covered landscapes inspired by the towns, villages and mountains of Wales.
The escapades of the Robin across the idents are based upon the old Welsh folk song ‘Robin Goch ar Ben y Rhiniog’, which means 'Little Robin on the door step', and aims to reflect the festive spirit onto the S4C brand.
S4C’s Head of On-screen Promotions, Aled Wyn Phillips said: “Christmas inspires a variety of different images in every one of us.
“This year we hope that by introducing this small animated Robin to our programing it becomes a central part of our festive brand that will strengthen the warmth of S4C’s services throughout the Christmas period.”
Some highlights during this year’s S4C Christmas programming include Y Syrcas, a unique family film which tells the story of a young girl bewitched by the excitement of the traveling circus that visits her town. On Christmas Day the whole family can settle down to watch the first ever Welsh-language production of Pedr a'r Blaidd (Peter and the Wolf) with actor Rhys Ifans narrating the story, and Tudur Owen will host a Christmas night full of humour, tinsel and trimmings in Sioe Dolig Tudur Owen. Bryn Terfel will also have his own festive programme full of classical Christmas music, the opera superstar and his guests will lead us through the Story of the Nativity in Nadolig Bryn Terfel.
