Word Cup Final live on Sgorio

23 January 2015

The final of Welsh football's FAW Word Cup between Bala and The New Saints will be shown live on Sgorio within S4C's Clwb programme on Sunday afternoon 25 January.

The New Saints secured their place in the final by beating Port Talbot in extra time in their semi-final tie and Bala beat Prestatyn to reach the final.

The match will be played at Newtown's Latham Park and Malcom Allen, who'll be commentating on the game in Sgorio, has great admiration for Bala and their manager, Colin Caton.

But, he says, "They're a village team compared to the league and Welsh Cup Champions TNS and are real underdogs going into this game. They'll need to create a new level of performance to win and need TNS to have an off-day which certainly could happen.

"Bala have never beaten TNS in any competitive game and it's going to be difficult but if Colin Caton can put his best team on the pitch, apart from Lee Hunt who is cup-tied, they could possibly cause a cup shock and we've seen plenty of that in cup games over the years."

Nicky John presents the coverage with Bryn Tomos and Malcolm Allen in the commentary box and Owain Tudur Jones and Dai Davies providing the expert analysis.

"Owain Tudur Jones, 30, is home in Bangor recovering from knee surgery. The Falkirk midfielder, now playing in the second tier of the Scottish league, is recuperating after his sixth serious knee injury.

But there are some comforts of being with his family and it does give the Wales international the opportunity to be part of the presentation team for the Word Cup final on Sgorio on S4C's Clwb on Sunday.

"I'm really looking forward to the final and the atmosphere should be special at Latham Park. The odds are stacked against Bala, having never beaten TNS. They are a difficult side to beat especially on a 3G surface, but the one thing Bala can do is score goals and you never know in a final."

His career has been blighted by injury but Owain has enjoyed his last four years playing for some of Scotland's top sides. "I've really enjoyed it up north but it's nice to be covering a game in tournaments where I started my career."
