TV icon Bluey arrived at Cardiff Airport today (Friday 21 November) to launch the Welsh-language version of the global smash series, Bluey, created by Joe Brumm and produced by Ludo Studio.
For the first time Bluey, called Blŵi in Welsh, will be dubbed by production company Tinopolis and shown on Welsh-language channel S4C from Tuesday 30 December, as part of its Cyw programming for young children. Episodes from Series 1 will air every Tuesday and Thursday - so Blŵi can be enjoyed during and beyond the festive season.
The series follows the loveable, inexhaustible, Blue Heeler dog, who lives with her Mum (Chilli), Dad (Bandit) and her little sister Bingo. Blŵi uses her limitless energy to play games that unfold in unpredictable and hilarious ways, bringing her family and the whole neighbourhood into her world of fun.
Blŵi was greeted at Cardiff Airport by year two pupils from nearby Ysgol Gymraeg Sant Baruc, in Barry, as well as Cyw’s presenters Griff and Dafydd.
Sioned Geraint, S4C’s Content Commissioner – Children and Learners, said:
“I’m delighted that Blŵi has arrived in Wales to a warm Welsh welcome. Hers is a long awaited arrival by our young viewers and the excitement that she’s finally here is something that as a commissioner I will treasure.”
Cecilia Persson, Managing Director, Kids & Family at BBC Studios adds: “We’re delighted that Bluey/ Blŵi has joined the S4C family. The show’s playful stories and heartfelt moments connect with families everywhere, and it’s wonderful that viewers in Wales can now enjoy Bluey in their own language.”
Jon Bridge, Cardiff Airport’s Chief Executive, also commented:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Blŵi to Cardiff Airport and to Wales. It’s a joy to help bring this beloved character to young viewers and families across the country.”
