Y GÂN by Geth Tomos, Henry Priestman and Emlyn Gomer wins Cân i Gymru 2026

The song Y GÂN (THE SONG) by Geth Tomos, Henry Priestman and Emlyn Gomer has won Cân i Gymru 2026.

The song was chosen as the winner in a live public vote by viewers of Cân i Gymru on S4C tonight (28 February) live from the Anglesey Showground.

Y GÂN wins the Cân i Gymru trophy and the cash prize of £5,000.

Y GWANWYN BACH by Rhydian Meilir and Myrddin ap Dafydd took second place and wins a cash prize of £3,000 and STORM HENO by Rhodri Lloyd Evans finished third with a prize of £2,000.

The song's composers are Geth Tomos and Henry Priestman and Emlyn Gomer wrote the lyrics. This is the second song by the three that has reached the shortlist this year. Emlyn lost 3 friends very suddenly and that was at the back of his mind when writing the lyrics.

Singer Sara Owen performed the song.

Geth said:

“Thank you very much to you all. As a musician from Anglesey, this means the world to me.

“Thank you to these two, to the whole family and to Sara for singing it so brilliantly.”

Emlyn Gomer added that Sara’s performance was “incredible.”

Osian Huw Williams, musician, lead singer of the band Candelas and former co-winner of the award chaired this year’s panel of judges.

Joining Osian on the judging panel were Barry ‘archie’ Jones from the band Celt, singer songwriter, Mali Hâf, presenter and radio DJ, Mirain Iwerydd, and lead singer of the band Gwilym, Ifan Pritchard.
