S4C’s on-screen rugby campaign which featured some of Wales’ greatest outside-halves has been nominated in the Promax UK Awards – the UK’s biggest television promotion and marketing event.
The campaign was to promote the Channel’s coverage of the 2011 Six Nations Rugby Championship and featured famous Number 10s from the 1950s onwards. The parade of rugby greats starred Cliff Morgan, Barry John, Phil Bennett, Gareth Davies, Jonathan Davies, Neil Jenkins and Stephen Jones.
Each of the former internationals brush the dust off their Welsh Number 10 shirts to wear with pride in turn during the campaign until Wales Under 20 player, Steve Shingler appears at the end of the promo representing the next generation of players.
The Promax UK Awards will be held in London on Friday, 11 November.
This nomination is the latest of many accolades S4C’s on screen campaigns have received in recent years. In May 2011 the 2011 Six Nations promo made the shortlist for the European Broadcasting Union Connect Awards.
At the 2010 Promax UK Awards the Channel’s on-screen promotions team won Gold for the Haka campaign which promoted S4C’s cricket and rugby output last summer.
The Haka promo also won accolades at the prestigious Georges Bertellotti Golden Podium Awards, held during the Sportel convention and at the 2011 Celtic Media Festival it scooped the Marketing Campaign top prize.
Both projects were led by Owain Morgan Jones from the S4C on-screen promotions team.
