S4C is more than a television channel – it is a backbone of contemporary Welsh culture and a creative force that invigorates the Welsh language. Beyond our work to create great content, we work with partners all over Wales to nurture talent, support communities and welcome Welsh voices of all backgrounds. On this page there is information about career opportunities we support – first steps, steps up and continuing professional development; some of the partners we are working with to improve access and fairness in our industry; and some of the cultural events we sponsor.

Training

S4C supports a number of training opportunities from external partners to ensure everyone has the chance to step into the world of television production and develop key skills as we transform to a digital-first broadcaster.

Comedy Lab Cymru
S4C and Channel 4 partner with Little Wander on this scheme, which offers development and mentoring opportunities to new comedy writers and performers.
Screen Alliance Wales
The purpose of Screen Alliance Wales is to develop the screen workforce of the future, and S4C is proud to support their work with school through Wales through the medium of Welsh.
Hansh - Dim Sbin
Since 2017 Hansh Dim Sbin has been developing Welsh-language journalists of the future. Each autumn there are opportunities for two people to have ten months of full-time paid work with the ITV Welsh-language news team and to lead on social media content for the Hansh Dim Sbin platforms.
Factual Fast-Track Wales
Every year, the Factual Fast Track project gives opportunities to people working in factual production to have the support, training and work experience they need to step up to the next level in their careers. Thanks to S4C, two places on the scheme are ringfenced for people who have strong communication skills in the Welsh language.
TAC
The partnership between S4C and TAC enables us to develop skills in the production sector through the medium of Welsh. We work together to ensure that we meet the specific needs of the sector.
It's My Shout
It's My Shout is an independent production company which offers training opportunities for people of all backgrounds to have a taste of working in film. S4C commissions four short Welsh-language films each year, as well as providing practical support.
Sports Broadcast Bursary
This is a special opportunity for someone who comes from a background that is underrepresented in the broadcast sector to do the MSc Sports Broadcast course in Cardiff Metropolitan University. The Bursary includes the course fee as well as work experience with our production partners.
Journalism Scholarship
Our Journalism Scholarship offers financial support, practical career experience and work opportunities to students on the MA News Broadcast course in the School of Journalism, Media and Culture (JOMEC), Cardiff University. This is an excellent opportunity that could open doors to the world of Welsh-language journalism.
NFTS Cymru
An S4C Bursary is available to a Welsh-speaking student who has secured a place on an NFTS course but needs financial support to study on the course.
Dai Llanilar Memorial Prize
Through the Dai Jones Llanilar Memorial Prize, S4C and the RWAS provide an opportunity for a young person to work with Telesgop and Slam to develop an original idea into a fully formed item, which is then broadcast on S4C’s platforms.
ScreenSkills
S4C contributes to the ScreenSkills unscripted fund, which enables everyone in the sector here in Wales to have access to high-quality training.
Into Film
Canfod is a scheme by Into Film for creative careers in Wales – a special programme of online and in-person events that gives young people the opportunity to experience and learn about the range of jobs and career pathways available within the creative sector.

Cooperating to make Wales thrive is one of the central pillars of S4C’s strategy, More Than a TV Channel, and S4C supports several key partners, be that with financial or practical support.

Disability Wales
S4C is proud to support the work of Disability Wales, which campaigns for the rights and equality of disabled people.
Disability Arts Cymru
Among a number of other things, Disability Arts Cymru develops disabled and Deaf creative talent, and S4C is proud to be an associate member.
Culture Connect Wales
Culture Connect Wales brings together diverse talent in the film and television sector in Wales, and S4C supports financially and practically.
TV Access Project (TAP)
S4C is an associate member of this project, which works to ensure access to the television industry for disabled people.
Arise
Arise is a project run by arts organisation Fio that develops creatives from the Global Majority, and S4C is happy to provide its expertise and opportunities to develop Welsh language skills.
News for All
We are very excited to be supporting this project, which works with local communities (Blaenau Ffestiniog in 2025/26) to investigate what people need from journalism to create new models for sharing public information.
Bafta Wales
S4C is one of BAFTA Cymru’r core supporters, and we’re very proud to celebrate the best screen talent in Wales, and to promote creativity, opportunities and communities in our industry.
BAFTA Albert
S4C is a member of the Albert consortium, a partnership that helps us to embed sustainability as an integral part of the process of producing the content we commission.
Creative Wales
Through our Memorandum of Understanding, we are pleased to work with Creative Wales, supporting talent and creating new opportunities that foster creativity and the production of great content across Wales.
Ffilm Cymru
Together, we support Sinema Cymru – a scheme that develops Welsh film talent and productions, helping creative teams bring their ideas to life and develop their filmmaking skills.
The National Centre for Learning Welsh
The National Centre for Learning Welsh is a key partner in our work to support Welsh learners all over Wales and beyond.
RTS
S4C is one of the RTS’s major patrons, celebrating the best of the TV industry, supporting new talent, encouraging creativity and craft, and helping to strengthen the creative community that makes our industry so vibrant and diverse.
Bardd Plant Cymru
We support the Bardd Plant Cymru – the Welsh-language Children’s Laureate – who inspires and empowers children across Wales through workshops and a variety of poetry projects.

Show Racism the Red Card
Show Racism the Red Card does special and important work in schools across Wales. S4C sponsors special prizes for Welsh and bilingual projects.

National Eisteddfod

Urdd Eisteddfod
The Urdd Eisteddfod is an important event for us, given that children's content is a priority for us. As well as sponsoring the festival, we hold special events through the week across the maes and on our stand.
