Press Pack - Christmas 2021 on S4C

As another difficult year comes to a close, everyone is looking forward to celebrating Christmas with family and friends.

There is a feast of special programmes on S4C over Christmas to warm the cockles of the heart and celebrate the festive season.

There is something for every member of the family – so here are some of the highlights for S4C viewers this Christmas ...

BWYD BYD EPIC CHRIS

This Christmas, the fiery chef from Caernarfon Chris Roberts will be bringing a taste of world food to the streets of the town in Bwyd Byd Epic Chris (Chris's Epic World Food).

From Jamaican jerk chicken to a traditional pork dish from the Philippines, Chris just loves trying out new foods from all over the world.

After not being able to travel and experiencing other cultures during the pandemic, Chris has decided to organise an EPIC world-wide feast in his home town.

The aim? To give his friends, family and local people a taste of flavours from all over the world and to share recipes, giving viewers at home the chance to create different meals over the festive season.

PAMPRO CŴN CYMRU

In the programme Pampro Cŵn Cymru (Pampering Wales's Dogs) well-deserving dogs will get a little treat from Wales's most talented dog grooming team – Dylan Wyn from Cwtsh y Ci in Carmarthen and Anna Williams from Annie's Doggie Day Care in Llandudno.

With Jac the therapy dog having a good pampering and lots of fuss for Jess the greyhound who has broken her leg, this programme will be full of canine Christmas cheer.

ALED JONES A SÊR Y NADOLIG

Come and celebrate the magic of Christmas with Aled Jones and some of Wales's biggest stars, as they come together to enjoy a Christmas musical feast.

There will be performances from Aled Jones, Al Lewis, Lily Beau and the Italian sensation Carly Paoli.

No Good Boyo bring their usual twist to some seasonal favourites, Glain Rhys plays piano while Siwan Henderson and Steffan Rhys Hughes bring a bit of West End sparkle to this special programme.

There will also be performances from Y Cledrau, Brigyn and there will be some brass band brilliance from the Tongwynlais Brass Band.

There will be an unforgettable finale with a special performance by Aled Jones and a deaf friendly choir.

POBOL Y CWM

2021 has been a busy year in Cwmderi with several familiar faces leaving but with some new faces arriving in the Cwm too.

One of those making an appearance over Christmas will be Dylan. Although he has been in jail for months, he manages to get in touch with certain Cwmderi residents in a very dramatic fashion.

But how has Dylan managed to escape from jail and why is he taking such a risk in order to see his family?

It isn't just in Cwmderi that we see a familiar face. As Jinx and Arwen go on a trip north to see Ffion, they bump into her ex, Cai. Do the two have something to hide?

New Year's Eve and Megan is looking for answers about her son Gareth Wyn. A stranger comes to Megan's house while she is sleeping.

A letter is placed on the table next to her and we see that there is a word written on the envelope ... who is the mysterious visitor?

Pobol y Cwm, Hour-long specials on Christmas Day and New Year's Day at 8.00pm, as well as the three weekly editions on Tuesday, 28 December; Wednesday, 29 December and Thursday, 30 December.

ROWND A ROWND

Ken is escaping for the night and he is very much looking forward to it. He has been shopping for food and has discovered his stash of homebrew to enjoy on the trip with Vince. But Vince doesn't share his enthusiasm as he feels guilty for how he has betrayed his best friend. Kay tells him to go and relax and try to forget about what happened between them but it is much easier said than done.

The carolathon is in full swing and quite a few people are happy to take part. Some are better singers than others but the effort they make must be commended. Mel's hard work has gained some national attention and a very special guest will make an appearance and ensure that the event is memorable.

CANU GYDA FY ARWR

In a special episode of Canu Gyda fy Arwr (Singing With My Hero), Rhys Meirion chooses some of his singing heroes and asks them to sing with him.

Joining him will be the Gaelic singer Mairi McInness, the talented composer Robat Arwyn, and to mark their centenary Cwmbach Male Choir from Rhondda have Rhys's company as part of their celebrations.

There will be plenty of tears, laughter and celebrations in this special hour of chat and singing.

A new series of Canu Gyda Fy Arwr begins on Sunday, 19 December at 8.00.

Emma Walford and Trystan Ellis Morris have a special wedding to organise over the festive season – with a budget of just £5,000!

How will the friends and family of Rhian and Stuart from Tregaron get on as they try to add some Christmas magic to the big day?

With Nanteos mansion perfectly decorated for a winter wedding, the Priodas Pum Mil (£5,000 Wedding) team are promising the happy couple several surprises including a role for Tootsie, the dog, an unique bottle of tomato sauce and a performance by Bronwen Lewis.

This time it's the turn of four of Wales's national treasures to lead a walk in Am Dro Selebs (Let's Walk Celebrity Special) and the pressure will be on for each of them to choose a walk that could win them £1,000 for their favourite charity.

Broadcaster Jason Mohammad will be taking us along the river Taf; well-known farmer Gareth Wyn Jones will be treading the land above the family farm in the Carneddau mountains; Non Parry from the pop group Eden will be aiming for the paradise of Newport, Pembrokeshire and the weather presenter Alex Humphreys is hoping for some sunshine in Flintshire.

Will the paths be wide enough, the picnics tasty enough and the views splendid enough for the famous four?

In this special Christmas edition Elin Fflur will be crossing the Atlantic to 'chat under the stars' with one of Hollywood's biggest stars - Matthew Rhys.

In an hour-long programme with the lights of New York as a perfect backdrop, we lift the curtain on the exciting and colourful life of the successful Welsh actor.

HUW EDWARDS YN 60

As one of the BBC's leading news presenters, broadcaster Huw Edwards is a familiar face to millions of people and a safe pair of hands during some of the world's greatest historical events.

In a special programme for S4C, viewers are given the opportunity to get to know the man behind the public face as he celebrates his 60th birthday.

The trip will take us from his home in London to Wales, calling at some of the places closest to his heart and to look at what has shaped his life and work so far.

O'R DIWEDD 2021

A look back at another year of living under the shadow of Covid with Tudur Owen, Siân Harries and Gareth Gwynn.

This humorous and satirical show will look back over another difficult 12 months through some of the biggest stories and events of 2021 with comedy that hits straight at the heart of some of Wales's most prominent institutions.

The show will include lots of funny sketches full of strong opinions and jokes.

SPORT

Once again, sport plays a central role in the festive schedules.

On Boxing Day, fans can re-live the unforgettable Turkey v Wales match from Euro 2020, at 5.30pm.

The west Wales derby match between Scarlets and Ospreys will be shown at 5.00pm on New Year's Day, while the Indigo Group Premiership match between Llanelli and RGC will be shown at 5.30pm on Monday 3 January.

FILMS

Some classic Christmas films will be available on S4C Clic, S4C's on demand service, over the festive season.

These include Albi a Noa yn Achub yr Iwnifyrs; Anrheg Elin; Ble Mae Cyw and Martha, Jac a Sianco.

The following films will be broadcast on S4C over Christmas – Pluen Eira on Christmas Day at 3.00pm; Cyw a'r Gerddorfa at 9.00am and Donna Direidi: Be Wnei Di? at 9.50am on Boxing Day, December 26.
