Contemporary artist creates a top prize for Eve Myles fans

2 November 2020

Artist Nathan Wyburn, who is originally from Ebbw Vale, is quickly making a name for himself for his innovative, creative style.

And if you're not familiar with his name, there's a good chance you've already seen his work on-line, often created from unusual materials such as food.

"I tend to get my ideas from the world around me," says Nathan.

"My mind is always full of ideas and I'm constantly inspired by news, current affairs and the people in the stories.

"Take my recent drawing of Donald Trump for example.

"I'd been collecting face coverings since the first lockdown, as I had a gut-feeling I would find a way to use them.

"When I heard Donald Trump had Covid, it felt apt to use the masks to make a portrait of him.

"I also did one of Captain Tom Moore. I created the drawing by walking the paint on a huge piece of paper in recognition of his fundraising achievement.

"I made sure I used an old pair of trainers for this one!".

Now living in Cardiff, Nathan first came to prominence in 2011 when he reached the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent.

He used Marmite on toast to create a picture of one of the judges, Michael Mcintyre.

Since then, his work has attracted thousands of followers to his social media accounts, as well as commissions from none other than Mariah Carey and Dame Shirley Bassey.

And what's his latest project?

Nathan has created a tribute to his friend Eve Myles who plays the role of Faith Howells - the busy mother, wife and lawyer lead in Un Bore Mercher / Keeping Faith.

"I know Eve well and as this is the last series and last chance to follow Faith's hectic life, I wanted to create something special to fix the iconic image of her in the famous yellow coat in people's minds forever more.

"All I used for the portrait was one yellow coat, exactly like Faiths'.

"I've shown Eve a picture and she loves it. Hopefully, she can have her photo taken with the piece after the lockdown."

In keeping with his usual style, Nathan captured the creative process with a time-lapse video, available to view on S4C's social media accounts.

For a chance to win this great, original portrait of Eve Myles as Faith Howells that measures a massive one meter square, visit our Un Bore Mercher page.

Entries have flooded in since S4C announced the competition after the first episode aired on Sunday, but there is plenty of time to enter before it closes at 22:00 on Sunday 15 November.

The third and final series of Un Bore Mercher is on S4C on Sunday evenings at 9.00 and viewers have already taken to social media in their hundreds to welcome its return.
