Chance for an exclusive look at S4C drama, Dal y Mellt

27 September 2022

Residents of Bangor and the surrounding area will get the chance to enjoy the first episode of S4C's new drama, Dal y Mellt (Rough Cut), in Pontio, Bangor.

A special evening will be held in the centre's cinema on Thursday, 28 September at 8.15pm.

The screening is free but a ticket must be ordered beforehand from the Pontio website - https://tickets.pontio.co.uk/Online/mapSelect.asp

A question and answer session will follow with cast members including Lois Meleri Jones (Antonia), Dyfan Roberts (Gronw), Graham Land (Les), Owain Arwyn (Dafydd Aldo), the drama's author and producer, Iwan 'Iwcs' Roberts and the producer Llŷr Morus.

Based on the book of the same name, the author from Trawsfynydd, Iwan 'Iwcs' Roberts', is also one of the producers responsible for bringing the novel to life.

"I published my first novel, Dal y Mellt, in 2019," said Iwcs.

"I knew in my heart when I was writing it that it was a very visual novel. In my head it was a drama, even before I'd started. I was painting with words in a way."

So for those who haven't read the novel yet, what sort of series will Dal y Mellt be?

"People were asking – what would you compare it with; Peaky Blinders, Guy Ritchie's stuff?

"No, I want people to say, it's like Dal y Mellt. I strongly believe that this is a Welsh drama for the people of Wales, because Wales deserves it.

"Rhys Ifans says at the beginning of the novel, 'a wild ride to the depths of a world that turns under our noses'.

"I was trying to create a life that was quite real and turbulent. Situations that people are put in and that they try to find a way out of, and nobody really knows what is going on."

"I thought that was really interesting from the perspective of the reader, and that is what I'm trying to convey now to the viewers. So the television adaptation - six hours of drama - is very true to the novel."

The showing will be in Welsh, with English subtitles, and the thrilling nature of the series will certainly appeal to a wide audience.

Because of the strong nature of some of the language, the showing is only suitable for an audience of over 12 years of age.

Tickets can be ordered here: https://tickets.pontio.co.uk/Online/mapSelect.asp

Dal y Mellt will begin on S4C on 2 October at 9.00pm with the entire boxset available on S4C Clic a BBC iPlayer.
