Y Byd ar Bedwar wins Transgender TV Award

02 February 2015

S4C's current affairs programme Y Byd ar Bedwar has won a special award for its report on the transgender community in Wales. Y Byd ar Bedwar is made by ITV Cymru Wales for S4C.

Jenny-Anne Bishop, who has been awarded an OBE for her work with the transgender community in Wales, presented programme editor Geraint Evans and the team with the Transgender Television Award.

Jenny-Anne, who sponsors the awards, described the Y Byd ar Bedwar programme as "easily the best in terms of respectful treatment of transgender people, highlighting the important issues the community faces on a daily basis and in showing just how ordinary much of our lives are and how we fit into the communities we live in. Y Byd ar Bedwar's report was overwhelmingly voted as the best in Wales in 2014."

The award follows Y Byd ar Bedwar's success at the Bafta Cymru Awards where the programme took the prize for best current affairs for the second year running.

The Transgender TV Awards recognise transgender positive television presenters, actors and producers by acknowledging those that have made a particular effort to treat transgender people with dignity and respect.

Llion Iwan, S4C Content Commissioner for Factual, said, "This award reflects Y Byd ar Bedwar's sensitive and professional approach in treating an important issue in a programme of interest to our viewers. I congratulate the team who deserve praise for winning another award for their work."
