A tribute to the late Robin Evans

Llion Iwan, S4C's Chief Content Officer said:

“Robin Evans was like a magician, turning everything he touched into gold. From immensely popular music bands to countless television productions over forty years. Possibly his greatest legacy is the series Rownd a Rownd, which has brought so much enjoyment to generations.

"Through working with him, I came to know a warm character, always ready to tease with dry humour, and his attention to detail in his productions was of the highest standard. I learned a great deal from him. His courage towards the end was remarkable and typical of his character. Deepest sympathy to his wife Heulwen and their children, Llio and Huw.”

S4C pays tribute to musician, actor and writer Dewi 'Pws' Morris

Dewi Pws was a unique character and versatile performer who made an enormous contribution to S4C and Welsh culture.

As a member of leading bands Y Tebot Piws and Edward H Dafis, Dewi Pws came to national prominence. And in 1971 he won the Cân i Gymru competition with the popular song Nwy yn y Nen.

But with his talent for acting and natural mischief, he also made his mark on several iconic productions for S4C. He was well known as Wayne Harries, one of the first characters in Pobol y Cwm from 1974 until 1987, and the comedy film Grand Slam in 1978. And generations of Welsh children will remember him fondly as Y Dyn Creu in the series Miri Mawr and as Islwyn Morgan in the soap opera Rownd a Rownd.

His talent on screen and to life in Wales was invaluable, and he was a hero and inspiration to many of us. He was one of our creative giants as a nation and he will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts are with Dewi Pws' wife, Rhiannon, and his family and friends, and we thank him for his outstanding contribution to various S4C productions over many years.

S4C tribute to Dai Jones Llanilar

S4C has paid tribute to the broadcaster Dai Jones whose death has been announced today.

In the pantheon of Welsh broadcasting legends, Dai Jones, Llanilar, stands at the top.

He had a natural talent of getting the best out of people, employing his natural charm, wit and warmth to introduce a myriad of unforgettable countryside characters to a curious, fascinated TV audience in the evergreen series Cefn Gwlad.

In this rural TV programme, he created a unique genre, providing sensitive profiles of the people he met without using the conventional methods of interviewing.

A natural compere and a commanding tenor singer, he made his mark on TV entertainment series such as Noson Lawen and in his early years, Sion a Sian, where his talents as a people's person first came to the fore.

                  Geraint Evans, S4C Director of Content, said;

"As we sympathise with his family and friends, we salute one of the most natural broadcasters in Welsh TV history.

"Whilst born in London Dai was as closely connected to rural Wales as it is possible to be, but he appealed to everyone, rural and urban.

"From the farm yard to the eisteddfod stage, and from the tv studio to the mart, Dai was comfortable on all of them and with the ability to make everyone in his company feel at ease.

"Our broadcasting landscape and the countryside will be all the poorer without him."
