S4C's Commercial Growth Fund and Commercial Content Fund have funded more than £2 million in businesses and productions since launching in October 2023, supporting innovation, content creation and international growth opportunities.

Through its commercial arm, S4C has continued to back ambitious media businesses and projects that align with its ‘More than a TV Channel’ strategy while strengthening Wales' creative economy and increasing the global reach of Welsh content.

Since its launch, the Commercial Growth Fund has invested £673,500 in media-focused businesses that align with S4C's strategic ambitions and can demonstrate significant opportunities for future growth.

Recent investments include WFM Ltd, which is developing a civic AI product based in Wales.

The Fund has also invested in Wander Films, an award-winning content studio operating across content marketing, branded entertainment, digital content and television. Wander already works with a number of Welsh partners and clients across branded content and broadcast, with S4C's investment expected to support further growth, innovation and collaboration in Wales over the coming years.

Since its creation, the S4C Commercial Content Fund managed through S4C International, has provided £1.4 million in funding to productions and projects that demonstrate strong potential to generate commercial returns and reach audiences beyond Wales, including:

·       Santa Maria, a Swansea-set drama series and the first drama co-production between S4C and ITV.

·       Peace Particle, a documentary series featuring exclusive access to CERN as it marked its 70th anniversary, with international distribution secured across several territories.

·       Hafiach, a coming-of-age drama series for young adults with international distribution, which was shortlisted as a finalist in the C21 International Awards for Best Newform Drama Series.

·       Egin Bach (Tiny Buds), a children's animation series produced in Wales with support from S4C, Welsh Government via Creative Wales and ITV.

The fund also provides cashflow loans to support the production of landmark Welsh content. This has included backing Effi o Blaenau, which has become the highest-grossing Welsh-language film ever at the box office.

The two S4C Funds were established to unlock new commercial opportunities for Welsh-focused media companies, creative businesses and producers while helping ensure the long-term sustainability of the sector.

S4C's commercial arm continues to seek opportunities to invest in and provide financing for media-related companies in Wales that are looking to scale, innovate, or develop content with international sales potential.
