Live streaming of S4C

01 May 2007

S4C has started live streaming of its daily, digital service, S4C digidol, on broadband, on s4c.co.uk.

The move, part of S4C’s multi-platform strategy, means that viewers across the UK can tune in to the Channel, free-to-air, on their PCs.

Subject to clearance screening, many live sporting events will also be streamed as part of the new service.

Individual S4C programmes have been available to view on the web, on-demand for over a year, as well as streamed coverage of all Wales’ major cultural events. S4C digidol is also available outside Wales on Sky.

Iona Jones, S4C’s Chief Executive, said: “We are committed to ensuring S4C content is available free-to-air to our viewers and users and our aim is to build on our presence on every major digital platform across the UK.

“The 2001 Census showed there are 158,000 Welsh speakers living outside Wales in the UK and it is important S4C content is freely available to those people, as well as others with an interest in high quality original content.”
