BAFTA Cymru honour "a year of first-class content" with 24 nominations for S4C

The BAFTA Cymru 2016 award nominations have been revealed today, Thursday 1 September 2016, with 24 nominations for S4C commissions across 13 categories.

Leading the pack this year with four nominations is the crime drama Y Gwyll/Hinterland (Fiction Factory), including the third nominations on the bounce for both lead actors Richard Harrington and Mali Harries.

Also nominated for an actor gong is Catherine Ayres for her role as news editor Angharad Wynne in Byw Celwydd (Tarian) and Mark Lewis Jones as lead role in the film Yr Ymadawiad. The Severn Screen production is funded by Film Cymru Wales and S4C, and will be broadcast on S4C following a theatre tour.

The dramas Byw Celwydd and 35 Diwrnod (Apollo, Boom Cymru) alse appear several times in the full nominations list, including best Television Drama where S4C commissions have claimed three of the four nominations in the category: Byw Celwydd, Y Gwyll/Hinterland and 35 Diwrnod.

In the other categories, the Dim Byd team (Cwmni Da) hope to take to the stage again to claim their fourth BAFTA Cymru Entertainment award. The long-running current affairs series Y Byd ar Bedwar (ITV Cymru) also hope to add to their substantial award collection, this time for their feature on the Nepal earthquake.

Among other nominations are three Children's Programmes - #Fi (Boom Cymru), Dad (Filmworks) and Y Gemau Gwyllt (Boom Cymru).

Recipients of two additional awards, the Siân Phillips Award and the BAFTA Special Award for Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television, will be announced on 22 September.

The winner of the Special Achievement in Feature/Television Film Award will be announced at the BAFTA Cymru awards ceremony on Sunday 2 October at St David's Hall, Cardiff.
