S4C has announced new opportunities for digital commissions at the annual S4C and TAC conference.
The plans were unveiled by Guto Rhun, S4C’s Digital Content Commissioner, during the two-day conference held this year on 4 and 5 November in Llandudno.
S4C is seeking content created specifically for social media, with proposals expected to demonstrate a clear understanding of the different audiences and requirements of each platform. The year-long package may include returning formats, standalone ideas, topical content and videos produced for major cultural events and national awareness days.
S4C has also opened a call for original factual documentaries for its YouTube channel, with individual commissions worth up to £40,000 each. The broadcaster is seeking distinctive stories driven by compelling characters and strong creative voices, with the ambition of reaching audiences both in Wales and beyond.
Guto Rhun, S4C’s Digital Content Commissioner, said:
“As I begin my role as Digital Content Commissioner, it's incredibly exciting to be able to share not one, but two fantastic opportunities for new digital commissions.
“As S4C delivers its More Than a TV Channel strategy and moves towards a digital-first future, it is more important than ever that we meet our audiences where they are watching, with bold content that cuts through the noise.
“This is just the beginning of our work to develop a long-term strategy for our digital commissions on YouTube, and I look forward to working with my fellow commissioners and the production sector in Wales to bring that vision to life.”
Now in its second year, the joint conference held by S4C and TAC, the body which represents the independent TV production sector in Wales, is an opportunity for the broadcaster, the production sector, freelancers, and companies to come together to discuss the future of the industry from a Welsh and Welsh-language perspective.
Following 2025's Dychmygu'r Dyfodol (Imagining the Future) conference in Cardiff, this year's event, Adlewyrchu Cymru (Reflecting Wales), is being held at St George's Hotel, Llandudno.
Geraint Evans, S4C's Chief Executive, added:
“The S4C and TAC conference has established itself as a key event for the sector in Wales, providing an opportunity for us to listen, share ideas and shape the future together.
“This year, it was great to have YouTube present as we continue to develop a closer relationship with the popular viewing platform, helping bring the Welsh language into the lives of audiences where they are already watching and engaging with content.By working closely with producers and content creators, we can ensure that stories from Wales and in the Welsh language reach new audiences.”
