Open Call – Digital Comedy Shorts (10 mins)

Following the success of the 7 Comedies announced last year, S4C is calling again!

S4C has been the home of Welsh comedy for decades and we are looking again for the next wave of comedy voices to bring laughter back to the heart of S4C.

We'd like to receive original ideas for 10-minute-long comedy pilots. This is an opportunity for us to experiment with new formats and experience audience response in a fast and creative way. We welcome any comedy format, not just sitcom scripts.

We will consider commissioning up to 10 individual ideas, to be developed and published as part of S4C's digital comedy strand. This content will be published digitally only.

The successful ideas must be produced and communicated by the end of February 2027.

All pitches will need to be in the form of a 'deck slide' including:

  • Title
  • Analysis of the idea
  • Example up to page of script work
  • Casting Scheme
  • Idea of the audience
  • A definite idea of mood and style of work
  • A little information about the key creative team and your experience
  • When applying, you should take into consideration the contractual implications on the content that will live on YouTube, Clic, iPlayer

Budget

Up to £20,000 per project.

How to pitch an idea?

If you are interested, please send your idea to syniad@s4c.cymru by 12:00 on 31 August. You can submit more than one idea, but you will need to submit them separately. We will confirm receipt of the idea by email.

S4C's production website offers useful information including technical, contractual and communication information if you have a question about the production processes.

Beth Angell and Guto Rhun intend to shortlist in mid-September -– we reserve the right to revise the schedule, and our intention will be communicated via email. If you are successful, the idea will need to be put on S4C's commissioning system – Cwmwl. This should not be done before the invitation has been received.

We very much look forward to receiving your proposals. The right not to commission any of the proposals received is reserved.
