      What are cookies?

Cookies record information about your online preferences. The main purpose of cookies is to identify users and maybe prepare customized pages for them. When you go to a website that uses cookies, you may be asked to fill out a form providing information such as your name and interests. This information is packaged into a cookie and sent to your web browser which stores it for later use. The next time you go to the same site, your browser will send the cookie to the web server. The server can use this information to present you with custom web pages. For example, instead of seeing just a generic welcome page you might see a welcome page with your name on it.

How do I turn cookies off?

Users have the opportunity to set their computers to accept all cookies, to notify them when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. The last of these, of course, means that certain personalised services cannot then be provided to that user and accordingly you may not be able to take full advantage of all of the features on S4C's websites. Each browser is different, so check the "Help" menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences.

If you have set your computer to reject cookies you can still browse S4C's websites anonymously until such time as you wish to register for services on S4C's websites. For further information on cookies and how to delete them, please visit www.aboutcookies.org.
