An amazing £3,000 has been raised for Glangwili Hospital by the Scarlets rugby choir in a charity challenge originally thought up by the late Ray Gravell.
The gauntlet was thrown down by Ray, the captain of the Scarlets Choir, as part of the current S4C series of Codi Canu, a choral competition in which five rugby choirs battle for the honour of singing the anthems before Wales v France at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
The fund-raising activities of the Scarlets in Carmarthen reflected the true spirit of competition that Ray would have greatly appreciated.
The bass section went to the town centre to shine shoes, the sopranos and altos to the shops to pack bags and the tenors to wash cars, all of them singing at the same time.
A cheque has been presented to local NHS hospital trust head Monica French, under whose responsibility falls Glangwili, where Ray Gravell received treatment.
Julie Payne, on behalf of the Scarlets Choir, said: “It was a great day. Everbody was keen to do their best in Grav’s memory.”
