S4C’s Digital Fund is open for business

06 August 2012

S4C today announced that the Digital Fund, established by its subsidiary S4C Digital Media Ltd to promote developments in the area of multi-platform and digital media, is now open for business.

Details of the fund, worth £1m a year over the next four years, were announced today at the National Eisteddfod in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The fund aims to support new creative products and services across digital platforms, devices and channels with the goal of enriching S4C’s offer to its audiences and generating a commercial return.

Elin Morris, S4C Director, Commercial and Corporate Policy, said, “S4C’s remit is to provide a diverse and high quality television service but digital media will become integral to everything we do.

“This includes being available across digital platforms, enhancing our service with digital content, interacting with our viewers and reaching new audiences through digital media.

“We hope the Digital Fund will better enable our content suppliers to help deliver our digital ambitions.”

The fund has been set up with commercial monies and will aim, where appropriate and possible, to invest in projects with commercial potential. However, the fund will have a mixed portfolio of projects – those which have commercial potential and those which have public value contributing to the delivery of S4C’s digital strategy. It is expected that at least 50% of the money available for investment will be earmarked for projects with commercial prospects.
