New look for S4C Arts programme Pethe

22 February 2013

A new presenter, a new style and plenty of new stories from the arts in and out of Wales – this is the new Pethe.

Music guru and presenter Lisa Gwilym will be the new face of Pethe, bringing the viewers art, film, drama, music, literature, and everything else that falls under the colourful umbrella that is ‘the arts’, every week, starting Tuesday 12 March at 9.30.

"There's so much happening that interests and entertains us. There's such a great energy in the arts scene in Wales at the moment, and each week on Pethe we'll strive to reflect that.

"The dynamics of the programme will offer a wonderful mix of the new and the traditional - the variety that makes life interesting." Says Lisa, the girl from Henllan in Dyffryn Clwyd who's become a familiar face and voice in Wales over the years as a presenter on S4C and presenting on her own radio show on Radio Cymru for many years.

"I think it's important to look beyond Wales, but to do so with a Welsh perspective. The world is getting smaller and it's incredibly important that we're part of it.

"I intend on asking the important, challenging questions that give us revealing answers. There are a lot of interesting, controversial and exciting things on the way this year!"

The series has already made a name for itself for bringing the latest from the arts in Wales to the screen but now Cwmni Da want to take it a step further and look, with a Welsh perspective, at what's happening in the arts outside of Wales, as well as here on our door step.

From Rhys Mwyn to Alan Llwyd, from R.S.Thomas to Roy Lichtenstein, from the National Theatre to the Mostyn Gallery, Lisa will travel far and wide taking the viewers right to the heart of these creative hubs.

As well as the weekly programme Lisa will also be recording a weekly podcast which will be available to download from the Pethe website with interviews, reviews and chats. The first podcast is ready and waiting for you -

So don't forget the first Pethe of the new series on Monday, 11 March at 9.30. Come and see what we've got in store.
