The Cyw and Stwnsh gang join in the fun at Tafwyl

12 June 2013

The Tafwyl Festival Fair will be held on Saturday (15 June) and S4C are glad to announce that some of the Channel's favourite characters and presenters will be joining in the fun.

In the festival which is located on the Cardiff Castle grounds again this year, the Cyw service presenters Einir and Gareth will be singing and dancing on the main stage at 12.00 and joining them will be none other than the lovable, popular character, Cyw! Sali Mali, Superted, Hana and Francis will also be coming up on stage to entertain the younger children during the session.

Then at 12.45 Lois, Tudur and Barry from S4C's Stwnsh service for young people will fill the stage with crazy games, and someone is sure to get a cream pie in the face before the end of the session! A show to entertain the older children with a chance for them to win some Stwnsh prizes as well.

Bearing in mind that the festival's aim is to promote the Welsh language there will be numerous sessions for Welsh learners held throughout the day as well. In the learner's tent at 12.50 Cyw presenters Einir and Gareth will talk about the @Tifiacyw service for families.

On S4C's programme Ti, Fi a Cyw which is on every morning from Monday to Friday at 7.50 children from all over Wales help their parents to speak Welsh, and the Twitter account @Tifiacyw helps with the learning by tweeting new words online during the programme. The @Tifiacyw service aims to encourage non Welsh-speaking parents to learn with their children. Professional Welsh tutor Ioan Talfryn will also be hosting a session in the learner's tent at 4.30 which will include a short lesson for Welsh learners and a talk about his experience as a Welsh tutor on S4C's Cariad@iaith:love4language.

Garffild Lloyd Lewis, S4C's Director of Communications, Marketing and Partnerships said:

"Tafwyl is a fantastic festival which celebrates the best of Welsh life in Wales's capital city, and we look forward to being part of the day again this year.

"It's a good chance to tell Welsh learners who visit the fair about S4C's varied provision for Welsh learners, programmes such as Ti, Fi a Cyw, Cariad@iaith:love4language and Hwb, and the twitter account @Tifiacyw. The festival was a great success last year and I'm sure that it will continue to go from strength to strength."

The Fair is part of a week of Tafwyl Festival celebrations so the city will be buzzing with events until the following Friday. Cyw presenters Rachel and Einir will be reading stories and singing for young children at the Cardiff Central Library on Monday (17 June) at 10.30 and 1.30, and there will be a chance for you to see some of Wales's best new comedians as seen on S4C's stand up series Gigl, in a special night with Steffan Alun, Frank Honeybone, Noel James, Dan Thomas, Huw Marshall and Alun Saunders at Chapter on Tuesday (18 June) at 8.00.
