Highlights of the Paris-Nice race on S4C first

19 March 2014

Welsh broadcaster S4C will be the first in the UK to show the round up highlights coverage from last week’s Paris-Nice 2014 cycling race.

Highlights from the eight-day race which ran from Sunday 9 to Sunday 16 March will be broadcast in an hour-long programme on S4C on Thursday, 20 March at 9.30pm.

S4C’s programme Geraint Thomas: Paris-Nice will follow the fortunes of Wales’ biggest name in cycling during the race which is made up of eight stages and covers a total distance of 1,447 kilometres.

The first major European stage race of the UCI World Tour season, the Paris-Nice race attracted some of the World's best riders including Welshman and Olympic Champion Geraint Thomas, who is Team Sky’s lead rider.

Thomas was in second place before he crashed 5km from the finish line on stage seven and was forced to abandon the race. Geraint Thomas: Paris-Nice will include footage of the crash as well as an interview with Thomas at his Monaco home the day after the incident.

Geraint Thomas: Paris-Nice will also be speaking to another Welsh member of Team Sky, Cardiff-born Luke Rowe.

The broadcast is in line with S4C’s commitment to providing a sports service that reflects a wide range of sports.

Llion Iwan, S4C Content Commissioner said: “Our sports provision is evolving and expanding to reflect the various interests in Wales. As both a participation and spectator sport, Cycling has become more and more popular in recent times, and we’re glad to be able to respond to this and broadcast highlights from one of the biggest and historically most important events in the cycling calendar.”

Geraint Thomas: Paris-Nice will be broadcast simultaneously on the S4C website (s4c.co.uk) and will be available to watch online on Clic, S4C’s on demand service (s4c.co.uk/clic) for 35 days following the broadcast.
