A ‘Real’ challenge for Swansea City at the Liberty

02 August 2014

S4C will broadcast Swansea City’s prestigious friendly against Villarreal on Saturday 9 August live on the web, s4c.co.uk (kick off, 3.00pm).

And viewers can watch the game in full the following day on Sunday August 10 at 4.00pm on S4C’s football show Sgorio and see how the Premier League side match up to the La Liga club.

English commentary will be available on the red button on both broadcasts.

This will be the Swans’ final match before they face their first Premier League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford the following Saturday.

And it's quite a challenge against Villarreal, a club that has competed a number of times against the game’s giants in the Champions League over the last decade.

Dylan Ebenezer will present the coverage from the Liberty Stadium, with Malcolm Allen and John Hartson analysing and Nic Parry in the commentary box.

This is the second live match between one of Wales’ big clubs and one of the European giants with S4C also winning the rights to broadcast Cardiff v VfL Wolfsburg recently.

Llion Iwan, S4C’s Commissioner for Sport and Factual Programmes said, “There will be considerable interest in this game as it matches up two teams from two of the world's biggest leagues. We are delighted that S4C can broadcast the game which will be of interest to followers of the game throughout the United Kingdom.”

Former Wales and Newcastle player Malcolm Allen, believes that the game is a good yardstick to find out how Swansea are shaping up under coach Garry Monk.

"I know that many Swans fans will disagree with me, but I think that Swansea will find it tough this season. They must have a good start or they will face an uphill struggle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

"The Swans have an inexperienced young manager and have lost several key players. It will be hard to find players to fill the boots of Davies, Michu and Vorm.

Sgorio: Abertawe v Villarreal, live on s4c.co.uk Saturday 9 August 3.00pm. The match in full on S4C, Sunday 10 August 4.00pm. English commentary available.
