Meet Cyw’s new presenters

25 October 2021

Two brand new faces - Griff Daniels and Cati Rhys - will step in front of the camera to join the presenting team at Cyw, S4C's service for its youngest viewers.

21-year-old Griff Daniels from Pontypridd has just graduated from Liverpool University, where he studied Geography. While at university, he started working behind the scenes on the university radio station before moving on to present on it.

"The scriptwriting and production etc for the radio programme sparked the interest in presenting. I'm also a member of the band Wigwam, and we've been performing at festivals such as the Eisteddfod etc, as well as in many Primary Schools. So when I saw Cyw's presenting post being advertised, I thought it would be a great opportunity to combine two things I've enjoyed doing - presenting and taking part in live shows."

22-year-old Cati Rhys is originally from Caernarfon, but now lives in Cardiff. She studied at Trinity College's Performing Arts course in Cardiff, and has enjoyed performing since childhood:

"I've always seen myself as a creative person in the way I think. I really enjoyed 'presenting' imaginary programmes whilst on long car journeys when I was little! I had the privilege of being part of Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn when I was older, and that sparked an interest in singing, acting and dancing."

Although the experience of presenting in front of the camera is new to Cati, she is used to working behind the scenes, and has been a Researcher and Runner at Eisteddfodau and other festivals.

They will both join Elin Haf and Huw Owen who currently present the service.

Griff said: "I'm looking forward to doing live shows and getting a buzz from seeing the reaction of the children and the parents as well."

Cati is also looking forward to the new challenge:

"It just feels like I'm home somehow. I'm looking forward to the scripting, researching as well as doing the work in front of the camera. And I'm looking forward to work with the team, who are so friendly; I'm sure we'll get to learn so much from Elin and Huw. But most of all, I'm looking forward to saying hello to the children of Wales!"
