WawFfactor – The Road to Success

21 February 2008

“My ambition, more than ever, is to succeed as a singer!”

Those were Duffy’s words after coming a close second in the first series of S4C’s talent show WawFfactor, back in 2003. Now, as Duffy celebrates after reaching number one in the British download chart with her song Mercy, S4C is delighted to congratulate her on her success.

There’s a sense of anticipation about Duffy’s debut album, Rockferry, out on 3 March, and there’s certainly a buzz about the girl from Nefyn with a unique voice.

WawFfactor stars reach the top

Duffy isn’t the only one to find fame following success on the popular show. The 2004 winner, Lisa Pedrick is composing, and a new EP of her work will be released shortly, with songs composed for her by Cerys Matthews and Steve Balsamo among others. Lisa has developed a more ‘roots’ feel, with an emphasis on live sound.

Rebecca Trehearn, who won the show in 2005, lives in London and works in musical theatre. She’s performed in a stage production of Alfie and is currently in We Will Rock You, the extremely successful West End musical. She continues to compose songs.

Also, Aimee Ffion Edwards, who came second in the 2006 WawFfactor, plays the part of Sketch in the E4 drama Skins. Einir Dafydd, the 2006 winner, is a familiar name on the Welsh music scene. She continues to sing, record and compose songs and she was the Cân i Gymru/Song for Wales 2007 competition winner. Einir is a member of the judging panel on this year’s competition, broadcast on S4C at 8.00pm on 29 February.
