S4C to broadcast Grand Slam celebrations

    S4C will broadcast highlights of the Millennium Stadium’s Grand Slam Party, enabling sport and music fans throughout the UK to enjoy the star-studded concert being held to celebrate the Welsh rugby team’s Six Nations’ success.

The 20,000 tickets for the free event on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 May were snapped up within minutes of being released. This announcement by S4C and The Millennium Stadium means that many more can enjoy the top-quality extravaganza in a special hour-long show.

S4C will broadcast its show Grand Slam 08 – Dathliad y Pencampwyr (Grand Slam 08 – Champions’ Celebration) on Thursday 29 May (8.25pm) and again on Sunday 1 June (7.30pm).

It will be shown on S4C and S4C digital, which is available on Sky 134 and Freesat 120 in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and on Sky 104, Freesat 104, Freeview 4 and Virgin TV 194 in Wales. The programme will also be available to watch simultaneously on the S4C website www.s4c.co.uk.

Stereophonics, Feeder, X Factor star Rhydian Roberts, Heather Small, Dafydd Iwan and the Wales playing and coaching squad are among the stars taking part in the show.

S4C presenter Sarra Elgan will be the on-stage compere, with Rhodri Owen back stage with the performers for the TV show, which is a Welsh Rugby Union/Avanti production for S4C.

S4C Director of Commissioning, Rhian Gibson said: “S4C is delighted to be playing a key part in the Grand Slam celebrations. Our partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union, our commitment to music coverage and our reputation as the channel of the big event will ensure that all the magic of this wonderful occasion will be made available to viewers in Wales and beyond.”
