T.Glynne Davies Scholarship winners

22 September 2011

Three students are joint winners of S4C’s T.Glynne Davies Journalism Scholarship for the year 2011-12.

They are Bethan Muxworthy of Llannon, Llanelli, Geraint Thomas of Whitchurch, Cardiff and Carly Jones of Church Village, Pontypridd.

The T.Glynne Davies Journalism Scholarship, worth £6,500, is awarded by S4C to support recipients to pursue a postgraduate course in Broadcast Journalism at the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies in Cardiff University. The scholarship is offered in order to develop young journalistic talent and to help strengthen the content S4C commissions.

Garffild Lloyd Lewis, S4C Director of Communications, said, “I’m very pleased that we’re able to offer the T.Glynne Davies Scholarship again this year and that we’re able to award the scholarship jointly to three such promising students. The School of Journalism and Media at Cardiff University is at the forefront internationally in the field of journalism studies and research and the postgraduate course has nurtured journalists of the highest calibre over the years. In a period of economic cutbacks within the industry it’s essential that the emphasis on training and supporting young people remains. In addition to the scholarship, S4C contributes £320,000 towards training provision for the production sector and works with Skillset and the production companies, and with Cyfle, in order to develop skills in the field of media.”

Colin Larcombe, the Course Director for the Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism, said “We are pleased S4C is sharing the T.Glynne Davies Scholarship. The Scholarship has helped launch some successful careers. These three students are worthy winners who I am sure will go on to be excellent journalists.”

The scholarship was established as a tribute to the poet and novelist, journalist and broadcaster, T.Glynne Davies who died in 1988.
