S4C programmes nominated for Prix Jeunesse International 2016

Ysbyty Cyw Bach and the programme Dad from the series Sinema’r Byd have been nominated at the Prix Jeunesse International 2016 children’s awards – including a Special Award nomination for the short film Dad.

The Prix Jeunesse festival is held between 20-25 of May, 2016, in Munich, Germany. The festival is held every two years and celebrates the world's best of broadcasting for children.

The series Ysbyty Cyw Bach, which is produced by Chwarel, located in Cricieth, has been nominated in the Up to 6 Non-Fiction category.

The series, which is suitable for children under 6 years old and part of the Cyw service on S4C, aims to help overcome the fear of visiting hospitals. It discusses issues such as breaking bones, allergies and breathing problems. The series was filmed in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.

The short film Dad from the series Sinema’r Byd, a production by Ffilmworks, has been nominated in the 7-10 Fiction category as well as the prestigious Prix Jeunesse UNESCO Special Prize 2016. The Special Prize is awarded to programmes for children or young people which promotes better understanding of other cultures.

Dad is a stand-alone episode within the EBU / Eurovision Children's drama series Sinema’r Byd, whichare short films from all over the world, with stories about children who are facing various challenges. Dad follows the story of two boys from very different backgrounds who become friends and help each other overcome their difficult experiences, both bonded by family and war.

Dad has already been awarded the prestigious John Hefin Award at the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival for Creative Excellence.

Sioned Wyn Roberts, Children’s Content Commissioner for S4C says;

“It’s very exciting news that two S4C children's programmes have been nominated for these very prestigious awards, the Prix Jeunesse. Ysbyty Cyw Bach is for young children while the film Dad is aimed at older children and both fully deserve these nominations. Once again this proves that there is remarkable creative talent in the children’s television industry in Wales and that we can compete with some of the best talent in the world. Congratulations to both production companies, Chwarel and Ffilmworks and best of luck!”

Cyw is the service for young children on the channel and Stwnsh is aimed at children between 7 and 13 years old.
