Calling Welsh learners in Llandovery

31 March 2009

Welsh language learners in Llandovery and the surrounding area are being invited to a special event to present the interactive service enabling learners at all levels, to enjoy S4C’s most popular programmes.

The S4C Learners’ Evening is being held at the Castle Hotel in Llandovery on Thursday 2 April at 7.00pm in an evening hosted by Welsh singing diva Shân Cothi.

The service – accessed by pressing the ‘dysgwyr’ or ‘learners’ button on s4c.co.uk – is useful to all learners, whether complete beginners or fluent speakers.

The website focuses on major S4C series, currently the gardening series Byw yn yr Ardd, and the forthcoming music and chat series, Shân Cothi.

Singer and actress Shân Cothi will introduce the screening of her new show at the event and afterwards there’ll be an opportunity to find out more about the new learners’ service.

The service features introductions to S4C programmes and personalities, as well as background information on Welsh culture and traditions. There are activities for learners at four different levels: Just Starting, Mynediad/Entry, Sylfaen/Foundation and Canolradd/Intermediate. There is also a choice of north or south Wales language patterns.

Rhian Gibson, S4C’s Director of Commissioning, said: “We’re delighted to provide this comprehensive resource. This forms part of our commitment to making S4C accessible to all viewers, in particular learners, who are an all-important element of the audience.”

Entry to the Llandovery Shân Cothi screening is free of charge. To book a place, please telephone Cwmni Acen on 029 20300800 or email jenny.allen@acen.co.uk
