Welsh Broadcasting Forum established

23 March 2010

A Welsh Broadcasting Forum has been established at a meeting in S4C as a direct link with the Channel’s audience.

The forum will meet annually in the first instance with the inaugural meeting being held in June this year. In addition, there will be a regular dialogue in order to strengthen and make the most of the new partnership.

The Forum’s main task will be to review the programme provision and to deal with Welsh broadcasting matters and the role of the Channel.

Dr Meredydd Evans, on behalf of the Committee of the Welsh Broadcasting Campaign, said, “We are grateful to S4C for their warm welcome. The discussion has led to a very satisfactory outcome from our standpoint. The whole thing has been very positive and augurs well for the future.”

The development has been welcomed by John Walter Jones, Chair of the S4C Authority, who said, “This is an excellent way of strengthening the direct relationship between S4C and its viewers and we look forward to a fruitful dialogue.”

Iona Jones, Chief Executive of S4C, said, “The Forum represents a wide range of Welsh societies that are central to Welsh life and, in their turn, to S4C’s existence. This union between S4C and the Forum will strengthen our hand to face the challenges of the future together.”
