Teifi is crowned S4C’s 2010 Fferm Ffactor champion

30 July 2010

Newcastle Emlyn farmer Teifi Jenkins has won the title of Wales’ Best Farmer on S4C’s farming competition Fferm Ffactor and drives away the series’ top prize, a brand new 4x4 Isuzu Rodeo Denver vehicle.

Teifi, 28, came top after impressing the series’ official judges, Dai Jones and Professor Wynne Jones, throughout the competition. In the final round, he once again pleased the judges with a passionate plea to the audience on why he should become the Fferm Ffactor winner, which was broadcast during the live final held at Glynllifon.

Teifi fought tooth and nail to beat fellow finalists Iwan Price from Cerrigydrudion and Cardigan’s Phillip Reed to the title.

He had already won a motorbike in the semi-final challenge held during the Royal Welsh Show at the showground in Llanelwedd.

Teifi says, “I still can’t quite believe it – I knew it was a close race to the finishing line because Iwan and Phil are strong competitors. I’m really happy to have won the bike last week and now the 4x4!

“Consistency was key – not necessarily winning each task but knocking on the door. I like a challenge and I’m very critical of my own work by setting high standards and continually improving my performance in all aspects of life. The judges have been looking for an ambassador for the industry and I always felt that I could fill that role.”

Teifi enjoyed great success in the tasks and emerged as favourite after booking his place in the final with a sparkling performance in the motorbike challenge in the semi-final.

“I think the judges have been fair in their work. But they have asked a few picky questions on occasions to try and catch us out. It has been a great experience; I’ve been able to meet nine new friends and travel to corners of Wales that I might not have thought of visiting otherwise. This competition has boosted my confidence and I’ve had a really good time.”

Teifi follows in the footsteps of Cardigan farmer Aled Rees, the winner of the first series who went on to work as an ambassador for the industry

The Fferm Ffactor team are looking for enthusiastic competitors to take part in the next series, to be broadcast in 2011. For more information, visit the website: s4c.co.uk/ffermffactor.
