S4C to meet viewers on Anglesey

21 June 2011

People living on Anglesey will be able to enjoy a range of events organised by S4C between 25 June and 9 July – from celebrating the end of the Y Goets Fawr journey, to a pub quiz, a public meeting and a family fun day.

The activities will be held as part of the Calon Cenedl (Heart of the Nation) campaign, which sees S4C visit communities across Wales to promote its programmes, personalities and online services. The Channel has already been to Cardiganshire and the Llŷn and Eifionydd areas this year.

The events include an Anglesey Viewers’ Evening which will be an opportunity for people in the area to give their views on S4C programmes and services. The evening at Bodedern Secondary School on Wednesday 6 July is an opportunity for viewers to meet and question the S4C Chief Executive, Arwel Ellis Owen, and Chairman of the S4C Authority, Huw Jones.

In addition to the free events for the public characters from the new pre-school series Marcaroni will also be visiting schools in the area.

The events for the public kick off on 25 June as Byw yn yr Ardd presenter Russell Jones offers a helping hand to restore a garden at Newry Beach, Holyhead. There will also be a family fun day and Russell judges the Holyhead in Bloom competition.

On 28 June there will be a quiz in the company of Rownd a Rownd cast members at The Bull, Llangefni. The prize for the winning team will be £200 towards a local charity or project.

Come and celebrate the end of the Y Goets Fawr journey through north Wales with Shân Cothi and Ifan Jones Evans on Thursday 30 June. The event near The Maritime Museum in Holyhead will include a horse and cart procession and entertainment.

On Saturday 2 July S4C will take part in a Fun Day on Bryngwran School Fields with stalls, games, raffles, football, go-karting and quad bikes, followed by a concert with Elin Fflur and Band in the evening.

In Wellman's Club, Llangefni on Monday 4 July there will be an opportunity to discuss some of the hot topics in the world of agriculture with a team from the Ffermio series. Daloni Metcalfe will chair the discussion with a panel of the local farming and rural community. The event is part of a Ffermio tour which will visit several locations across Wales in the coming months.

Join Dudley Newbery for an evening of chat, taste and culinary tips at Dinorben Arms Hotel, Amlwch on Tuesday 5 July. And the production team from the fishing series ‘Sgota will give a sneak preview at the next series in Amlwch Memorial Hall on Friday 8 July.

Bringing the series of events to a close, Fireman Sam and Sali Mali will join in the fun at Llangefni’s first carnival for eighteen years. Come along and join in the festivities at Llangefni School on Saturday 9 July. A documentary series following the work of the carnival organisers will be broadcast on S4C. The three part series Genod y Carnifal will be broadcast on S4C soon.

Garffild Lloyd Lewis, S4C's Director of Communications, says, "Following the success of the Calon Cenedl campaigns in Ceredigion and Llŷn and Eifionydd, we look forward to the opportunity to meet our viewers on Anglesey. There will be an opportunity for viewers to learn about upcoming new series, meet some of the Channel’s personalities, and to give their views and ask questions about S4C services and programmes in the Anglesey Viewers' Evening."
