Adventurous Dyfi Valley farmers scoop top award on the Isle of Man

11 May 2017

There was cause for celebration for two Dyfi Valley farmers – Wil Hendreseifion and Aeron Pugh – as their S4C programme claimed a top TV prize at the 2017 Celtic Media Festival.

The programme Wil, Aeron a’r Inca scooped an award in the Factual Entertainment category at the Festival, which was held this year in Douglas, the Isle of Man between 3 and 5 May.

The programme, which was first broadcast in December 2015, documented the duo's extraordinary journey to the highest peaks of Peru to live and work alongside the shepherds of the Andes.

The Welsh farmers gave their all as they became part of the Inca way of life as they worked with the alpacas, lamas and shepherds on the mountainside.

Cwmni Da and Hay, the production companies which collaborated to make the programme, received a bronze torque trophy in an announcement during the Festival which celebrates the languages and cultures of the Celtic countries as portrayed on screen and broadcast.

Amanda Rees, S4C Director of Creative Content is delighted with the honour: "It's more than a journey with Wil and Aeron, it's an adventure. They are two friends who have a very special bond; they share an infectious sense of humour and rapport. We see the world as they see it, and we marvel, as they do, at all the big and little things along the way."

Wil and Aeron are no strangers to adventure. As well as the prize winning programme, which saw them take to the slopes of the Andes in Peru, in February this year, and S4C series Wil ac Aeron: Taith yr Alban followed the two friends on a trip of 1,500 miles and more to Scotland in campervan.

And in 2013, S4C documented their trip to northern Norway, where they helped heard hundreds of migrating reindeer through the snow.
