Welsh chef series promo gobbles up silver gong

31 May 2017

Top Welsh chef Bryn Williams is well used to scooping awards – but this time it's a trailer promoting his S4C series which has won a sizzling TV gong.

An eye-catching trailer promoting the fifth series of Cegin Bryn - translation: Bryn's Kitchen - won a prestigious European silver award for Welsh TV channel S4C.

Produced by S4C Communications Officer Huw Derfel, the Cegin Bryn promo took silver at the EBU Eurovision Connect Awards held recently at the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana.

His Cegin Bryn: Tir a Môr promo, produced last year, came second in the Best Conceptual Idea on a Low Budget Category.

The promo featured the song ‘Y Pren ar y Bryn’ performed by the iconic Welsh folk singer, Dafydd Iwan and used specific images from the series to correspond with the lyrics of the song.

“We had a lot of fun making this light-hearted promo and were able to take advantage of the fact that the word ‘Bryn’ appears many times in the song,” said Huw. “The quality of the programme and the stunning scenery made our job a lot easier.”

Huw, aged 46, brought up in Caernarfon and now living in Cardiff, was delighted that he had scooped up the award.

He added, “I must thank the whole S4C Communications team, especially our dynamic editing duo, Simon Roberts and Neil Sinclair for their invaluable input.”

S4C Director of Communication, Gwyn Williams added, "Congratulations to Huw and the team for winning such an important award. It reflects the quality of the promotional work that S4C produces on all digital platforms."
