S4C design success spreads the word on Welsh

13 June 2007

S4C’s new brand identity has won the Welsh Brand Category prize at the 2007 Bilingual Design Awards, organised by the Welsh Language Board. This is the second major accolade for the new brand - last month it won a prestigious European Broadcasting Union award.

The Channel’s rebrand, which focused on the theme of uncontrollable attraction, was undertaken by Proud Creative, under the direction of S4C’s Creative Director, Dylan Griffith, who was awarded Designer of the Year.

S4C won three other awards, cementing its reputation for creative excellence and for pushing the boundaries in terms of bilingual design, helping make Welsh accessible to new audiences.

The Exibition Panels Category was won by panels promoting two of S4C’s landmark TV programmes, drama Caerdydd, and Tywysogion, a documentary series about the Welsh princes.

S4C won the Advertising Category with its striking designs promoting its coverage of the Royal Welsh Show, while S4C’s 2006 Annual Report won the Corporate Promotion category. Both these projects were undertaken for S4C by design agency, Departures.

Iona Jones, S4C’s Chief Executive, said, “I am delighted at the Channel’s success at this year’s Bilingual Design Awards and warmly congratulate the talented teams who have produced ground-breaking creative work. In particular I would like to congratulate Dylan Griffith on winning the Designer of the Year award.

“Creative excellence is the benchmark of all S4C’s activities. Making our programmes accessible to wider audiences is also of key importance – our success at these awards is recognition that we are achieving these important goals.”
