Viewers in the Caerphilly area will have the opportunity to discuss S4C’s programmes and services with a panel of senior Channel figures at a Viewers’ Evening at Caerphilly Primary School, Park y Felin Street, Caerphilly, on Thursday, 21 February, 7.00pm.

John Walter Jones, Chair of the S4C Authority, the body responsible for overseeing S4C, will be joined by S4C’s Chief Executive Iona Jones and the Director of Commissioning, Rhian Gibson to answer questions about the Channel.

This Viewers’ Evening is one of a series of public viewers’ meetings to be held by S4C all over Wales in 2008. With the digital switchover imminent and new technologies improving and changing the ways in which viewers watch their favourite shows, there will be plenty to discuss.

John Walter Jones says, “There are naturally many topics of discussion about the Channel and we are looking forward immensely to meeting the people of the Caerphilly area. It’s a great opportunity to discuss every aspect of our programme service openly and honestly and to look forward to S4C’s exciting plans for the future.”

S4C has started 2008 with a diverse range of programmes that is proving highly popular with audiences. Average figures in peak hours in January are the highest for 12 months

The new comedy series Sioe PC Leslie Wynne, depicting the self-proclaimed “caring face of North Wales police”, has established a distinctive new comedy face on S4C while Teulu on Sunday evenings is the latest example of S4C’s commitment to producing high quality drama of broad appeal.

With strong storylines and compelling performances, the nightly soap opera Pobol y Cwm is also performing strongly in the first few weeks of 2008. Extensive coverage of the Six Nations Rugby tournament has been complemented by the second series of Codi Canu – following the fortunes of five competing rugby choirs in their bid to sing at the Millennium Stadium before the Wales v France game - and the ever-popular entertainment show Jonathan. The edition featuring X Factor singer Rhydian Roberts attracted substantial audiences to the show.

Documentaries have also been at the fore with O’r Galon and Wynebau Newydd also attractive impressive audiences.

Light refreshments will be provided during the Viewers’ Evening, and a full translation service will be available. For further information about the event, please contact the S4C Viewers' Hotline on 0870 6004141 (at national call rate).
