S4C’s ABC scoops top TV award

18 March 2009

Nursery programme ABC, broadcast on S4C’s dedicated service for younger viewers, Cyw, has won the Children’s Programme category at the prestigious Royal Television Society Awards.

The series uses a mixture of live action puppetry and animation to introduce children to the Welsh alphabet in a fun and innovative way. ABC is made for S4C by Boomerang Plus Plc. The series is produced by Angharad Garlick and Helen Davies and presented by Gareth Delve.

S4C’s Director of Commissioning, Rhian Gibson said: “I’m thrilled at ABC’s success. It was an achievement to be shortlisted in a category which includes the whole range of children’s programming, of every age and genre. To win the award itself is a fantastic result.

“The award reflects the high production values of our children’s service, which provides dedicated nursery programming for over six hours a day, five days a week.

“Many congratulations to everyone involved in this award-winning production.”

ABC pipped Channel 4’s Lifeproof and BBC 2’s Get Squiggling to win its category. The winners were announced at the RTS Awards evening, held last night (Tuesday, 17 March) at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
