Meet the new faces of S4C’s Cyw

11 October 2010

Einir Dafydd and Trystan Ellis-Morris are the new presenter of S4C’s ground-breaking nursery service Cyw which extends to the weekends.

Cyw is set to expand the Channel’s nursery provision from 23 October with programmes broadcast on weekends for the first time since its launch in June 2008.

The 21 year old from Boncath, near Crymych, is best known for her successful music career after winning S4C talent contest Waw Ffactor in 2006 and songwriting competition Cân i Gymru a year later with the song ‘Blwyddyn Mas’ (Year Out). Cyw will be Einir’s first taste of presenting.

Trystan, 25, from Deiniolen near Caernarfon, is a familiar face to eagle-eyed S4C viewers having presented youth series Mosgito and the Channel’s coverage of the National Eisteddfod and Llangollen International Eisteddfod in the past.

The two join Gareth Delve and Rachael Solomon to present the service for Wales’ younger children.

Einir says, “I’m looking forward to working with Gareth, Rachael, Trystan and Cyw of course. It will be quite challenging but really exciting. I think I get a lot more nervous now than I did back when I was 16 or 17. Back then I didn’t really care about nerves but as I’ve got older, I tend to think more about things.”

Trystan adds, “One of the things I’m most looking forward to is travelling across Wales and meeting the viewers. On the other hand, my creative skills will be put to the test quite regularly on Cyw. I’ve already had to make things out of clay and draw pictures from scratch – I’m going to have to keep practising with that I think,” laughs Trystan.

“Cyw will be totally different to anything that I’ve done in the past and the audience is completely different. I can’t wait to get started. There are a lot of little cousins in my family, which is great for me to practice before we start on air at the end of the month.”

Clwb Cyw (Cyw Club), on air between 07:00 and 09:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, sees presenter Gareth Delve travel to schools and nursery groups across Wales interacting with toddlers and young children.

New programmes will also feature on weekends including Rapsgaliwn, which follows a mischievous rapper as he attempts to find answers for the great questions of the world, and Rose d’Or nominated documentary series Y Diwrnod Mawr. Old favourites like Holi Hana (Hana’s Helpline), Sali Mali and RTS winner ABC will also be broadcast on the service.

To celebrate the extension in the provision for pre-school children to the weekends, Cyw and friends are taking to the road. A series of live shows will see some of the loveable characters performing in various locations across Wales.

In the days leading up to the on-screen launch, Huwi Stomp and Betsan Brysur from series Cei Bach will present special shows of fun and music in North Wales, whilst Sali Mali and Tigi from Igi, Tigi, Bip a Bop will be in South Wales.

You don't need a ticket and entry to the shows is free of charge, but on a first come first served basis.
