S4C brings its big shows to North Ceredigion

16 February 2011

S4C will be holding ten days of special events in north Ceredigion in late February and early March.

They will include the annual Welsh pop song contest Cân i Gymru in the Pontrhydfendigaid Pavilion on Sunday 6 March and the semi-final rounds of Wales’ premier choral competition Côr Cymru in Aberystwyth Arts Centre over the weekend 4-6 March.

The events begin on Thursday 24 February with a preview in Canolfan Edward Richard, Ystrad Meurig of a St David’s Day programme Wyneb Glyndŵr which reveals the real face of Owain Glyndwr, the last to claim the title Independent Prince of Wales.

There will be a pub quiz, a viewers’ evening and an evening for Welsh learners in the area. Also included will be recordings at Pontrhydfendigaid Pavilion of S4C’s popular hymn singing programme Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol, the youth talent series Sawl Seren Sy ‘Na? and a concert with Elin Fflur and her Band. During the period, characters and presenters from S4C’s children’s services Cyw and Stwnsh will be visiting schools in the area and helping raise money at an auction in aid of Ysgol Mynach, Devil’s Bridge.

The series of events in north Cardiganshire will carry the theme ‘S4C – Calon Cenedl’ – Heart of the Nation – in line with the channel’s on-screen promotional campaign highlighting the fact that Welsh communities are central to S4C’s 2011 schedule.

The actor Julian Lewis Jones, presenter of Wyneb Glyndŵr will host the special preview of the programme in Ystrad Meurig starting at 7.30pm. The programme will examine the historical facts and use the latest technology to create an accurate image of the Welsh hero’s face.
