Y Gwyll swoops to win Golden Eagle Award

03 July 2014

The popular detective series Y Gwyll/Hinterland has won the coveted Spring 2014 CINE Golden Eagle Award.

The series, broadcast first on S4C in autumn 2013, won the award in the Television Fiction Division – Drama.

The Fiction Factory production was filmed back-to-back in Welsh (Y Gwyll) and English (Hinterland). CINE has awarded the Golden Eagle Award to the Welsh-language version.

Y Gwyll/Hinterland is a Fiction Factory production in association with S4C, All3Media International Ltd, Tinopolis, BBC Cymru Wales and the S4C Co-Production Fund.

The award is another feather in Y Gwyll/Hinterland's cap according to S4C's Drama Commissioner, Gwawr Martha Lloyd:

"Y Gwyll/Hinterland has proved extremely popular. The series has already won the Celtic Media Festival 2014 Award for Best Drama and has been bought by ten broadcasters over the world including ARD in Germany and NETFLIX in the USA.

"The Golden Eagle Award is another wonderful accolade to receive as the cast and crew get ready to start filming the much anticipated second series in Ceredigion this September."

The CINE Golden Eagle Award was established in 1957 and has since been awarding an array of talent from emerging filmmakers to industry pioneers.

The CINE Golden Eagle Awards denote the best of film, television, and digital media.

CINE, an acronym for Council on International Nontheatrical Events, exercise a two-stage judging system which includes professionals from the industry which means that CINE awards mark not only 'production excellence, but of peer recognition, too'.

Filming for the second series of Y Gwyll/Hinterland will start in Ceredigion this September.
