Love is in the air this St Dwynwen’s Day on S4C

20 Ionawr 2021

This year's St. Dwynwen's Day is the perfect excuse to cuddle on the sofa with that special someone to enjoy a romantic feast on the telly, and S4C has the perfect night in to celebrate.

Love is the theme in a special edition of Noson Lawen - Serch (Noson Lawen – Love and Romance) on S4C on Saturday, January 23.

Nia Parry guides us on a romantic journey introducing some of Wales' best artists singing all sorts of love songs. She will be joined by masters of the love songs Only Men Aloud and the singer-songwriter Al Lewis, who performs and writes songs from the heart.

Also, singer and presenter Elin Fflur brings some more romance to the stage with a passionate performance and joins Al in a special duet. And we'll have an alternative love ballad from singer and comedian Hywel Pitts - one that's sure to make you smile!

Popular Anglesey singer, Wil Tân and his wife Ceri perform an old folk love song, too. Both of them have been key workers during the pandemic - Wil working as a fireman and Ceri working for the health service.

There is also an opportunity to enjoy performances by some of our young talents, such as singer (and rugby player!) Rhydian Jenkins from Maesteg, who won the Bryn Terfel Urdd Scholarship in 2019. Not forgetting the Brynhyfryd Trio of Gwenan, Osian and Ynyr as they sing a tribute to Vera Lyn. And even though they've performed and recorded it virtually in the last year, it's the first time they've sung the song together!

To complete the love-filled programme, musician Meurig Thomas, one of the stars of the Côr-Ona group, will perform a charming medley of love songs with the Noson Lawen band.

And immediately after Noson Lawen – Serch, we can enjoy Carys Eleri in Carys Eleri'n Caru (Carys Eleri Loves) again this year. In this nostalgic and heart-warming one-off programme, we'll follow the performer Carys Eleri as she takes a trip down memory lane to discover how we used to find love in Wales before now. Forget the dating apps, Carys Eleri is about to reveal the sometimes weird but forever wonderful ways of finding love over time.

And if that's not enough romance for you, Heno will be packed full of love-filled items. Including a love song by the Dyffryn Nantlle duo, Gethin Fôn and Glesni Fflur Evans, a 'Heart Roaming' tour in the streets of Heath, Cardiff, a community campaign to display hearts in the area's windows, and the crew will be over at Café Mechell, Llanfechell to hear how the area is determined to pass on the story of Dwynwen to the island's young children.
