BAFTA UK Award for S4C co-production

6 June 2021

A co-production between S4C and Channel 4 has won a BAFTA UK award tonight.

Tŷ am Ddim (The Great House Giveaway) scooped the BAFTA UK award against ITV's The Chase, Jimmy McGovern's Moving On for BBC 1 and Richard Osman's House of Games for BBC 2.

Tŷ am Ddim by Chwarel Production Company is a series that has certainly changed lives.

The format of the series gives two people a free house to renovate for 6 months - any profit they make, they keep.

The first series aired on S4C in October 2019 gave many young people opportunities to pursue their dreams of renovating houses.

In receiving the award at tonight's online ceremony, broadcast on BBC 1, series producer Sioned Morris made her speech in Welsh thanking S4C and Channel 4.

"This is the first joint commission between S4C and Channel 4 and it's a production model that has worked extremely well." said Llinos Wynne, S4C's Factual Commissioner.

"Tŷ am Ddim discusses one of the great social issues of our time, helping young people pursue their dreams to step onto the property ladder, and we are already filming the second series. Congratulations to Chwarel Production Company and all the team."

This is the second national roadcast award for S4C to win in over a week. On 27 May Dim Ysgol: Maesincla won the Broadcast award for best production during lockdown.
