The first trophy of the season in the Welsh Football calendar is up for grabs this Saturday as Cardiff Met face Welsh Premier League Champions, The New Saints, in the Nathaniel MG League Cup final at Aberystwyth’s Park Avenue. The game will be live on S4C at 17:00 with kick off at 17:15.
Cardiff Met v The New Saints – 17:15
Cardiff Met have never beaten The New Saints – and this will be the seventh game between the two clubs.
Dr. Christian Edwards and his team will be determined to beat TNS – with Scott Ruscoe chasing his first piece of Silverware as The New Saints manager.
Saturday’s final will be Cardiff Met’s first since their formation in 2000.
The New Saints are currently chasing the quadruple, with Scott Ruscoe’s men currently top of the Welsh Premier League with a 12 point lead, are into the 4th round of the Welsh Cup, have progressed into the Irn-Bru Cup semi-final and are favourites in Saturday’s League Cup final.
Cardiff Met have the best defensive record in the Welsh Premier League this season – conceding 17 in 22 games (0.8 goals per game) – having kept 11 clean sheets.
Met hope to have striker, Adam Roscrow back for the final after a lengthy layoff due to injury. Roscrow has scored 11 goals this season – 9 WPL goals and 2 in the League Cup.
Will Cardiff Met’s resolute defence and the possible return of their talisman striker be enough to pinch the cup from the hands of the most successful club in the competition? We’ll find out this Saturday!
